The other night a group of creative activists gathered together and started talking about what we do to reduce our waste and impact on the planet. We discussed the problem with terms like ethical as it can mean so many different things to different people but also discussed the many brands we love and lifestyle choices we have made to be more ‘ethical’ by our own understanding of the term.
I wanted to put a few of the suggestions into a list here for reference for us and others. If you have other suggestions please comment below and I will add them.
- Use a zero-waste shop to reduce the packaging you have to throw away, find your local zero waste shop on Leeds list.
- Get a veg/meat/diary box to support local farmers:
- Get a ‘junk’ food box – food that would otherwise end up in landfill
- Buy clothes secondhand
- Go to your local charity shop
- Depop – an app for buying and selling
- Ebay has loads of secondhand clothing as well
- If you want to buy new clothing try some ‘ethical’ brands
- Ethical marketplace – a variety of brands in one place
- Rapanui – lovely clothes
- Change your energy provider to one who fund green energy, a few you could sign up with are:
- Changing you banking to a more ‘ethical’ option, this is a tricky and complex issue so I would advise doing some reading around:
