Craftivism for Global Day of Solidarity

This Friday (22nd May) is the Global Day of Solidarity. It is a call for everyone to use their creativity to show solidarity with our global community. We, along with many organisations, are encouraging you to do one of the simple actions below and then share it on social media with #StrongerTogether or send a photo to friends. Each action has the power to encourage another creative action, so share this blog alongside your creative action. Anyone can get involved however creative (or not) they believe themselves to be.

Global Day of Solidairty

At LMM we love to see people using their creativity to make their voice heard. One name for this is Craftivism which has been defined as:

“A way of looking at life where voicing opinions through creativity makes your voice stronger, your compassion deeper and your quest for justice more infinite.” If this sounds like your kind of thing, then scroll to the bottom to let us know you want to do more!

Creative actions

  1. Write a colourful message of solidarity on a piece of paper and share a photo over social media as seen here. https://trello.com/c/mSYuV6hx/27-i-stand-with
  2. Create colourful rainbows and butterflies in whatever creative way you want, you can use coloured pens, paints, cross stitch, knitting, crochet etc. See below for some patterns and designs for different mediums.

-If you have colouring pens and want to print off a template use these for a rainbow or a butterfly.

-If you have a needle and thread use one of these templates for a cross stitch rainbow or butterfly.

-If you have wool and knitting needles use these templates for a rainbow.

-If you have wool and a crochet hook use these templates for a butterfly.

Once you have finished share it on social media with #StrongerTogether and this blog or share a photo with friends.
