Leeds Craftivists: Cost of Living Campaign

This Autumn/Winter the Leeds Craftivists are campaigning on the Cost of Living Crisis. We will be asking for a sustainable, reliable future by asking for more investment in renewable energy.

To find out more about why this is our “ask”, watch this video of Alice Garvey from our campaign launch:

If you want to take part in this campaign, please make one or more blanket squares with an encouraging message about the need for investment in renewables.

The squares should be 15cm x 15cm with a 1.5cm border to attach them together, so 18cm by 18cm in total.

You can knit, crochet or embroider your square, whatever you fancy. We encourage people to use scrap material or wool. If you don’t have any material at home there are lots of shops that sell scrap material like Scrap in Farsley.

I kept mine very simple:

Please then send your completed blanket squares to:

Anna Bland
Leeds Sanctuary
43 The Calls
Leeds
LS2 7EY

They will contribute to a couple of blankets; one that we will be sharing locally, and one that we will give as a Christmas present to the Prime Minister to highlight how many people will be cold this winter.

We are also inviting you to write a letter to your MP in response to this crisis, a template for that letter is below and if you feel so inclined you can also make them an origami hat by watching and folding along with the video below:

Future events in the campaign:

In November we in Leeds are meeting in person on Monday the 7th at 43 The Calls, Leeds, LS2 7EY.

Those local to Leeds can register to come along here.

If you are not local to Leeds, you are invited to meet with some people local to you and make blanket squares together, get in touch with Anna to ask any advice.

In December we are meeting up again on Zoom to find out how the campaign has gone, share stories and celebrate wins. There might be some festive fun as well! Register to come along here.
